Councilor Zaldivar laments blood shortage in Iloilo City

The city government of Iloilo held a bloodletting activity on June 11 in preparation for the possible surge of dengue cases in the metro.

The activity dubbed as “Dugong Ilonggo, Sugpon sa Kabuhi Mo: An Independence Day Blood Letting Activity” was held at the 2nd Floor of the Kerr Building at the City Proper district.

Councilor Allan Zaldivar, head of the Committee on Health, organized the bloodletting activity as part of the city government’s efforts to prepare for the possible rise in dengue cases. (

The demand for blood supply is high in the metro during dengue outbreak, according to Zaldivar.

He admitted that some blood banks in the city are experiencing shortage on blood supply.

Data from the City Health Office showed that the city reported 76 dengue cases with one fatality from January 1 to June 4.
