Council OKs monthly distribution of aid for people with disabilities
The Cebu City Council has approved an ordinance allowing the monthly distribution of financial aid to persons with disabilities.
Persons with disabilities currently get their financial aid from the government on a quarterly basis.
Authored by Councilor Lea Japson, the amendatory ordinance also mandates that persons with disabilities who had been registered in the Commission on Elections in 2013 and prior years will get the aid. (https://bit.ly/2UwUmcL)
“The registered PWDs in 2013 need government assistance as they cannot sustain their health maintenance,” said Japson.
There are a total of 9,986 persons with disabilities registered in Cebu City. Each gets an annual P12,000 in financial assistance.
Citing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities’ report, the Department of Health said persons with disabilities are those “those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.”
