Comelec: More illegal campaign posters scattered in Iloilo City
The number of campaign posters all over Iloilo City for this year’s midterm polls has increased by 50 percent compared to the 2016 polls, according to the Commission on Elections.
Assistant Election Officer Jonathan Sayno said in The Daily Guardian report that more illegally and oversized campaign materials of both local and national candidates are posted.
They have taken down at least 1,800 illegal campaign posters through Operation Baklas (Dismantle), added Sayno.
“We have been conducting operations and we were able to take down around 1,000 illegal campaign posters of national candidates and 800 for local bets,” according to him.
Sayno cited the “Utos ni Presidente, Utos ni Mayor” poster of Mayor Jose Espinosa III with President Rodrigo Duterte on their campaign against drugs, corruption, and criminality, saying it violates campaign rules.
Espinosa, for his part, explained he covered his picture to remove the notion that the poster with Duterte is part of his political campaign.
