Comelec assures to prioritize Malabor complaint
The complaint of Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor of Negros Occidental will be prioritized if it reaches the poll body, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
Malabor, who lost the mayoral race by 48 votes to Dr. Irene Montilla in the last elections, questioned the result and filed a petition for recount with the Regional Trial Court in La Carlota City.
The recount began June 19.
Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said a Temporary Restraining Order can be issued if the lead of a winning candidate is less than 10 votes.
The Comelec has the final say in such electoral protest cases, added Guanzon.
Malabor’s electoral protest covered 37 voting precincts.
