Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan wants the city to be “drug-free” after the arrest of a drug dealer who turned up over half a kilo of shabu in Sitio Mustang, Barangay Pusok on January 27.

Chan directed City Police Office Director Col. Elmer Lim to guard the entry points to the city to prevent contraband from entering.

He praised members of the team that apprehended Gerard Alipin Baron, a 39-year-old resident of Barangay Kamputhaw in Cebu City on Friday. (

The P3.9 million worth of shabu seized from the suspect made a huge dent in the illegal drug trade in the city, according to the mayor.

Chan said this month alone, operatives from the City Intelligence Unit and the City Drug Enforcement Unit have seized more than a kilo of shabu.

Six of the city’s 30 barangays have been declared drug-free, the local chief executive noted.

These are Barangays Caohagan, Tingo, Tungasan, Baring, Cow-oy and Sabang in Olango Island.
