Chan backs unified curfew with Mandaue, Cebu

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan supports the proposal of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes to follow a unified curfew in the tri-cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu.

Chan said that he already had an initial talk with Cortes and that they are also planning to discuss the plan with Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

At present, the curfew hours in Lapu-Lapu City starts from 10 p.m. and runs until 5 a.m. the next day. (

Mandaue City’s curfew hours, on one hand, are from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. while Cebu City follows an 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.

“The reason we made it from 10 pm to 5 am is to minimize the number of people going out. If the curfew is early, people will start to go inside their houses earlier,” said Chan.

The local chief executive added that essential workers, authorized persons outside residence, and frontliners are exempted from the implementation of the curfew.
