Chan backs postponement of brgy, SK polls
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ahong Chan supports the call to postpone the December 5, 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Holding two elections in one year would be too costly for the government, especially since the country is still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, Chan said in a news conference Tuesday.
“We cannot afford to do (two) elections in one year,” the city mayor added. (https://bit.ly/3bOiiTw)
He said it would be wise ti postpone the election until next year to give more time for preparations.
Local chief executives should instead appoint village officials, according to him.
Chan said this way, there will be strong cooperation between the town or city officials and the barangay officials, especially in delivering basic services such as garbage collection.
