Cebu’s Partido Barug gets nod from Comelec as political group
The Commission on Elections has accredited the political party of the local opposition group led by former Cebu City mayor Michael Rama, Partido Barug.
The party decided to drop Rama’s family name from the political party.
“We don’t want the party to be associated with a family or to only one family. We want to be associated with service,” said Rama in a Cebu Daily News article.
Partido Barug, a Visayas-based political party, aims to expand its membership outside Cebu such as Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
Localizing the political party, according to vice mayoral bet, would be a preparation for a possible shift to federalism from the current presidential form.
“We will need a local party that will address the needs of the local people,” Rama said.
