Cebu sets job fair for OFWs

POLITIKO - The bible of Philippine Politics.
Kuwait will be among the destinations of overseas jobs that will be up for grabs at an overseas job fair slated on July 8 at the Capitol Social Hall.
Vacancies from recruitment agencies licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration will be offered at the fair, the provincial government said.
The provincial government said the “thousands” of job openings are for skilled workers including welders, electricians, and painters; hotel and restaurant workers including waiters, receptionists, and housekeeping staff.
Among the overseas job destinations are Japan, China, Dubai, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Kuwait.
The Philippines recently had a labor spat with Kuwait over the deaths of overseas Filipino workers there. The ties have since been on the mend.
Public Employment Service Office (Peso) Labor and Employment Officer III Julius Chua said the July 8 event will also serve as a one-stop shop for those who wish to process their documents from national agencies.
These include the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and the Social Security System (SSS).
Representatives from the Provincial Prosecutor will also be there for those who want to avail themselves of the free legal services.
Chua said the job fair will start at 8 a.m. and will end until all applicants finish the whole process.
As of June 27, at least 599 applicants have registered. An advance screening will take place July 6 to prioritize the pre-registered applicants.
Registration for the overseas job fair started last May 2. Interested applicants may register at the Peso Capitol on or before July 8.
