Cebu province strengthening efforts to fight measles
The Cebu Provincial Health Office (PHO) is stepping up its responses to combat measles.
Dr. Rene Catan, chief of the PHO, said they are setting up 24-hour express lanes in hospitals and have deployed medical teams to the grassroots.
“Let’s increase our vaccination. That’s the only thing na pwede nato magamit ron to fight against this highly-contagious disease,” said Catan in The Freeman report.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier declared a measles outbreak in Central Visayas due to the increasing incidence of the infectious disease.
A total of 169 cases of measles have been reported from January 1 to February 12 in Central Visayas. Of the number, 119, including three fatalities, were from Cebu.
Catan, meanwhile, reminded the public that the vaccine is free, and there is an adequate supply even for adults who are willing to go through the procedure.
