Cebu City won’t ask task force for MECQ extension

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases will be left to decide on what will be Cebu City’s quarantine status after the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) ends on Sunday.

Despite the rising number of coronavirus cases, the city government assured that it is not making a recommendation to the IATF for another MECQ extension.

City Legal Officer Rey Gealon said the decision will be based solely on the results of the assessment of the members of the task force. (

As of yesterday, Cebu City has already a total of 2,013 cases with 394 recoveries.

Earlier, Mayor Edgardo Labella said the voice of the experts will play an important role in making the decision with regard to the quarantine status of the city after May 31.

“We have to be very careful, circumspect about this,” he also said.
