Cebu City to give P10M aid to Mindanao quake victims

The Cebu City government will send an initial amount of P10 million to help the victims of the 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao.

The City Council approved the amount yesterday upon the motion of Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia.

“It may not be much considering the number of affected families but at the very least it can provide for the necessities that our brothers and sisters in the affected areas badly need,” said Garcia.

In his privilege speech, the politiko urged the Council to send an initial aid to the earthquake victims while waiting for the report from the assessment team who was earlier sent to Mindanao to check the affected areas. (

The team is expected to come up with a recommendation on what assistance the city government should give.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the situation that has befallen our brothers and sisters in Mindanao especially so when we ourselves have been the recipient of the kindness of others in our times of need during various calamities or disasters,” said Garcia.

The financial assistance will be charged to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office fund.
