Cebu City council seeks stricter regulations on quarrying
The Cebu City Council is pushing for stricter quarry regulations in the city.
They recently passed a resolution by Councilor Dave Tumulak, which called for the suspension of all quarry operations in the city, Cebu Daily News reported.
It also directed officials from the 19 mountain barangays to help the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Central Visayas and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office assess the safety of their area.
The councilors also passed another resolution seeking assistance from psychologists to provide stress debriefing to the landslide victims in Naga City.
“Let’s help the MGB and help our constituents by checking which areas, near or situated on slopes, especially where houses are present (are at risk). The purpose (is) to strengthen disaster awareness and information dissemination in these areas,” Tumulak said in his privilege speech on Tuesday.
