Cebu City Council pushes free Internet service for schools
The Cebu City Council has passed an ordinance establishing a free wireless internet access program in all public and private educational institutions and state colleges, and universities within the city.
“Wireless Internet Access Ordinance in the City of Cebu,” authored by Councilor Eduardo Rama Jr., aims to promote easy access to information and services relevant to educational purposes through the use of wireless internet connection.
The measure also intends to improve learning medium through cost-efficient use of wireless internet and facilitate competitiveness through information and communication technology among educational institutions. (https://bit.ly/2SRSdK8)
It provides that all educational institutions shall establish Information and Communication Technology Centers within their respective institutions.
All bona fide enrolled students, faculty members, or non-teaching personnel shall be allowed free wireless internet access within the premises which are subject to rules and regulations established by the said institutions.
