Mayor Labao not recognizing Capiz guv Contreras
Not all may be well in Capiz province when the new batch of local government officials formally assume their posts after June 30.
Mambusao town Mayor Leodegario Labao made it clear he will not recognize the authority of Capiz Governor-elect Esteban Evan Contreras.
“I don’t need the help coming from governor-elect Nonoy Contreras, nor l will come to his office at the provincial capitol,” he said.
He added his town does not need the help of the provincial capitol in terms of projects and financial assistance.
But he said he will thank Contreras if the governor personally visits Mambusao and offers projects.
Labao said he improved his town without the support of the provincial government, particularly from the administration of outgoing Governor Antonio del Rosario.
Del Rosario, whom Labao supported in the recently concluded May 13 elections, defeated Contreras in Mambusao. Province-wide, del Rosario was beaten by 17,000 votes.
On the other hand, Contreras is supporting President Roxas town Mayor Receliste Escolin for president of the League of the Municipalities Capiz chapter in July. Labao has the backing of 95 to 98 percent of Capiz mayors.
Labao said he is not worried if Escolin has Contreras’s support because the governor will not be the one to elect the LMP president.
