Building of Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge to start in 2021 – Zubiri
The inter-island bridge connecting the islands of Panay and Guimaras is targeted to have its groundbreaking in 2021, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri said.
“I believe the Iloilo-Guimaras (bridge project) already has a budget and I think it’s ready for the first phase. So, (Public Works Secretary) Mark (Villar) said the groundbreaking will be 2021,” said Zubiri.
According to him, the inter-island bridge will provide a road network from one island to another in the region. (https://bit.ly/37jkdZJ)
The successive capsizing of three motorboats last August 3 that killed dozens of passengers was enough reason to push the project, the Negrense solon said.
He added that the lack of a bridge connecting the island of Guimaras has endangered the lives of residents since boat trips are at the mercy of the weather.
Zubiri was in Iloilo City yesterday for a meeting with the mayors in the province.
