Tourists visiting Boracay Island during Holy Week increased by 9-percent increase, according to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office.
Tourists registered 50,896 arrivals between April 14 to 19 this year, 4,286 higher than the same period in 2018.
Visitors from South Korea and China were the biggest surce of tourists.
Domestic travelers accounted for 26,811 arrivals, higher than last year’s 24,879 arrivals.
The influx of tourists in Boracay during the Lenten season could be attributed to the long weekend holidays in April, low-cost flights in Kalibo and Caticlan airports, and the ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the island, the local tourism office explained.
