Boracay needs P25B rehab action plan
The Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force has adopted a P25-billion Medium-Term Boracay Action Plan needed for the rehabilitation of the island, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said.
NEDA said 233 programs, projects, and activities, worth P25.27 billion, will be implemented to ensure the successful rehabilitation of the premier tourist destination.
Of the total cost, P15.89 billion will be shouldered by the private sector.
“It primarily provides the strategic interventions to ensure the island’s rehabilitation over the medium- term and sustainable management over the long term,” Undersecretary Adoracion Navarro said.
In 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte, who likened Boracay to a “cesspool,” ordered its closure for six months starting April 26 to pave the way for the rehabilitation works.
