Bing Leonardia wants 2-week pause in returning OFWs to Bacolod

Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia has formally asked authorities to suspend sending home returning overseas Filipino workers to Bacolod City, saying local officials need two weeks to have a better handle of the local situation. For him, it was their way to prevent “incalculable jeopardy.”

The politiko wrote to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for a moratorium of at least two weeks in sending OFWs home to their city, backed by the local and regional task forces.

“The uncontrolled number and the indiscriminate frequency of OFWs returning to our City will possibly exceed the available hotel facilities without warning and injudiciously exhaust our local workers. Should this happen, the safety of the whole City will be exposed to incalculable jeopardy,” the mayor added.
