Bing Leonardia sends home 73 Badjaos roaming Bacolod

The streets are not the safest place for these Badjaos at the moment.

Mayor Bing Leoardia ordered the safe transport of 73 Badjaos who were rounded up by city hall for roaming the streets to beg for alms amid the coronavirus crisis.

The group was ferried by buses to Dumaguete City’s seaport, where they will begin their journey back home to Jolo, Sulu. It was a struggle, but the politiko knew that sending them home is safer than for them to be constantly exposed to potential COVID-19 carriers – or worse, they could be spreading the virus around as they move.

“For their trip home, the DSSD provided them with food and cash allowances for their travel expenses, rented a bus to bring them to Dumaguete City, and paid for their boat fares to Zamboanga City with the use of program funds of the DSWD regularly coursed through the DSSD,” Leonardia said.
