Binasura! Tons of trash swamp Iloilo City after holidays
After welcoming the New Year, residents of Iloilo City got a jolt of reality: 50 tons of garbage swamping the city.
City General Services Office assistant department head Engineer Niel Ravena said they collected 50 tons of garbage on the first day of 2019.
Ravena said the GSO collects an average of 300 tons of garbage daily (http://thedailyguardian.net/local-news/garbage-flood-city-after-holidays/).
He said the volume of garbage tripled at the Iloilo Terminal Market or “Super.” He said they needed six more truck trips to collect the garbage there.
Most of the garbage collected in the Terminal Market were rotten fruits, he added.
Meanwhile, four trucks hauled garbage, mostly styrofoam and plastics, at Delgado Street in City Proper district.
At Jaro Big market, five truck trips were needed.
