Binaboy kasi ang Boracay: DILG files graft raps vs. Aklan gov, Malay officials

By John Carlo Cahinhinan

The Department of Interior and Local Government has filed graft and other administrative charges against Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores and 16 other municipal officials of Malay town over their alleged negligence in managing Boracay island.

Aside from violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing III charged Miraflores with grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty, among others before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Densing said Miraflores neglected Boracat while Malay officials were at fault for issuing business permits to business establishments in Boracay despite their failure to comply with environmental laws.

Duterte ordered Boracay to be closed to tourists for six months starting April so the island could be rehabilitated.
