Bilang na ang araw! DILG given two months to fully dissolve NIR
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been given two months to fully dissolve the Negros Island Region (NIR).
“We were given two months to wind up the activities in the region and dissolve the existing offices,” said DILG-Region Director Anthony Nuyda said.
The Interior department was tasked to supervise the return of the two Negros provinces to their mother regions.
President Rodrigo Duterte issued Executive Order 38 last week, which effectively reverted Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental to Central Visayas and Western Visayas, to which the NIR was carved out.
The NIR was established only through an executive order issued by former President Benigno Aquino III.
Since its establishment in 2015, the NIR was never given a budget under the general appropriations act.
