Benitez eyes move to convert Visayan bloc into political party
Former Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez plans to transform the Visayan bloc in Congress into a regional political party, Daily Guardian reported.
Benitez, one of the lead convenors of the Visayan bloc of the House of Representatives, said they are studying moves to convert the group into a regional political party.
The group, formed in 2013 to promote and develop tourism in Visayas, is composed of 44 lawmakers in Visayas.
The political alignment and commitment of Visayan bloc members are “very deep,” said the ex-politiko.
“We can probably formalize it politically by establishing a political party. It is now being studied if we can create one,” he added.
