Benitez eyes medical waste facility

The Bacolod City Government will be creating a centralized recycling facility after the discovery of medical waste at the Handumanan Public Cemetery.
Mayor Albee Benitez confirmed that the City Health Office (CHO) disposes of its medical wastes not only in Handumanan Public Cemetery, but also in North Public Cemetery (Burgos Cemetery).

“This has to stop. We will find a permanent solution to medical waste. It should not be there,” according to him.
Benitez was told that the CHO has been doing this for several years because the city lacks an appropriate facility.
The city will establish a facility adjacent to the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa, said Benitez.
