Banate town mayor allays fears over rising COVID infections
The number of public market vendors infected with coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Banate, Iloilo rose from 34 on Thursday to 53.
Nineteen more vendors tested positive for the viral illness Friday.
Mayor Carlos Cabangal Jr. said these new cases – all asymptotic – were tested through reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. (https://bit.ly/3sdN9fb)
The patients were brought to the town’s quarantine facility in Barangay Carmelo.
Around 300 vendors have been swabbed since Tuesday when authorities detected the first two infections in the market.
Cabangal allayed the fears of his constituents, noting that health authorities have tracked down all close contacts of the positive cases.
They were instructed to observe strict home quarantine while under monitoring by the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams, he added.
