Bacolod to clear waterways to prevent flooding
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the creation of a task force to handle the clearing of waterways in the city.
Leonardia recently met with the clearing team composed of the City Legal Office (CLO) and City Engineer Office to clear the waterways to ease the flooding problem, particularly at the Reclamation Area.
The Visayan Daily Star reported Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, said they have started clearing Mambuloc Creek to increase its holding capacity and help water flow towards the shore.
The CLO earlier demolished 35 houses in Barangays 10 and 12 and is set to conduct clearing operations in three more barangays in Bacolod.
City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan said they are conducting clearing operations of illegal structures along danger zones and those that are considered public nuisance.
