Bacolod mayor lauds Senate approval of Bacolod City Charter Day bill
Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia welcomed the Senate’s approval on third and final reading of House Bill No. (HBN) 7044 that declares June 18 as Bacolod City Charter Day.
“We are overwhelmed by the overwhelming votes the senators gave our June 18 Charter Day proposition. The vote of 20-0! It says it all,” Leonardia said.
HBN 7044, authored by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, also recognized October 19 as the city’s inauguration and every fourth Sunday of October as the highlight day of the annual MassKara Festival.
“Legality, logic and reason prevailed. The senators saw it the way we saw it. We believe we were able to convince the senators with the merits of our arguments,” Leonardia said.
“All considered, this is the only way we should interpret these events in our history. After 80 years, we will now have our history in proper order. We owe it to our future generations that we observe and celebrate what actually our officials and forefathers did for our city,” the politiko said.
