Bacolod gov’t to clear five ‘drug-infested’ barangays
Drug-clearing operations will soon be conducted in five barangays in Bacolod City.
Barangays 5, 24, 27, 41, and Alangilan will be the focal area of the operations because they are easy to be declared drug-free, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
In a Panay News article, Leonardia said he will meet with the officials of the concerned villages to plan out measures to prevent drug use in their areas.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported that 100 percent of Bacolod villages are infested with illegal drugs.
“All barangays in Bacolod City were found to have been affected by drugs and only a few areas were classified as ‘moderately affected’ in terms of categorization,” PDEA-Western Visayas director Alex Tablate said.
Tablate said that illegal drug pushers should be rehabilitated in the Balay Silangan, which is currently being restored.
“Once Balay Silangan is done, all drug surrenderers will be gathered there for rehabilitation,” he added.
