Bacolod declares a ‘climate emergency’
The Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution declaring a “climate emergency.”
Councilor Carl Lopez, author of the resolution, said Bacolod becomes the first city in the Philippines to declare a climate emergency.
“This resolution is the first regional collaboration on an immediate and just transition and emergency mobilization effort to restore a safe climate,” said Lopez.
His resolution was unanimously approved at the regular session of the city council on July 17.
“We will now take concrete steps spearheaded by the city government to be a model city in addressing climate change mitigation with the help of the Commission on Climate Change headed by secretary Emmanuel de Guzman,” said the chairman of the Committee on Environment and Ecology.
