The new head of the Regional Development Council in Central Visayas (RDC-7) hopes to see the proposed Cebu-Bohol Friendship Bridge project implemented soon.

Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado said that he has not given up hope on the project.

“Now that I am the governor, I still wish to make this project a reality. In fact, many of you want to take on the project and we are still studying it,” Aumentado said in the vernacular. (

The bridge project, which will connect Cordova town in Cebu to Getafe town in Bohol province, is expected to cost at least P56.6 billion, with funding coming from Official Development Assistance.

The 24.5-kilometer chain of bridges and causeways had previously been listed as one of the projects to be implemented as part of the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build program.

Its implementation, however, was halted after then-Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and National Economic Development Authority Director-General Ernesto Pernia identified it as one of the big-ticket projects that will have to be shelved either because it was “very expensive” or “impossible” to build due to technological limitations.
