Anti-tobacco advocacy group to visit Iloilo City on February 15 to 16
Iloilo City will host the Bloomberg Philanthropies, one of the world’s biggest tobacoo control program funders, on February 15 to 16.
This was revealed by Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force (ICAST) executive director Iñigo Garingalao in a letter to Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Bloomberg has donated US$1 billion in grants to support the anti-tobacco initiatives of various non-governmental organizations.
“We were surprised that among cities in the Philippines, they wanted to visit us here and look into our advocacy on children,” said Garingalao.
According to him, the Bloomberg team will visit various advocacy groups of the ICAST and organize children’s storyteling sessions on the health consequences of smoking.
“Iloilo City has been standing pat against tobacco promotions and sponsorships that usually entice our youth into smoking,” he added.
Garingalao hoped that the foundation can extend assistance to the city’s Smoking Cessation Clinic.
