All-time high! Iloilo province’s dengue cases jump to 2,453
Dengue cases in Iloilo province hit an all-time high in Iloilo province, as the number of cases there reached 2,453 with 12 deaths so far this year.
The Iloilo provincial health office said this is a 597-percent increase compared to 352 cases with one death in the same period last year.
PHO head Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado said five towns and one component city registered more than 100-percent increases in dengue cases.
She said Passi City has the highest number of cases with 225, followed by Pototan (197), Concepcion (173), Ajuy (126), Santa Barbara (116), and Calinog (161).
Concepcion has the highest number of deaths at three; Pototan, Banate, and Bingawan with two deaths each; and New Lucena, Santa Barbara, and Pavia with one death each.
But Trabado said they have yet to declare an outbreak at this time.
Still, she stressed the need for community participation in the “search and destroy” of mosquito breeding sites while health workers and local officials intensify anti-mosquito misting and spraying activities.
Also, Trabado said dengue patients are entitled to fast lanes in the provincial hospitals. They can also avail of “no balance billing” in Rural Health Units and provincial hospitals.
