Aklan prov’l gov’t to strictly monitor foreigners

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan (SP) called for the creation of Aklan Provincial Tourist Regulatory and Enforcement Unit to monitor foreigners who are staying and working illegally in the province.

This was recommended in the consolidated report No. 2018-240 of the committees on environmental protection, health and social services, human resource, disaster preparedness, peace and order, labor and employment, tourism, and trade, industry and commerce.

In March and December 2018, the SP held public hearings on the increasing number of undocumented foreigners in Boracay island.

Last January 30, SP member Nemesio Neron said they also directed the Department of Labor and Employment to check the nature of their work in Boracay and the province of Aklan.

Only 163 foreigners have been issued the required Alien Employment Permit. Of the number, only 123 foreigners work in Boracay and the rest work in Kalibo, the capital of Aklan.
