Airline security guard guns down robber in Bacolod
An airline security guard gunned down a suspected robber in a residential village in Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City on Sunday.
Police initially identified the slain robber as Arnold Genevera, 39, who had just robbed a 19-year-old commuter waiting for a passenger jeepney.
Genevera allegedly took away the victim’s mobile phone worth P7,000, and fled towards the old airport. The victim ran after him but tripped. Bystanders at the old airport also helped chase the suspect and asked for assistance from the three security guards at an airline ticketing office (https://dailyguardian.com.ph/airline-security-guard-shoots-robber-to-death-x/).
The guards cornered Genevera, who allegedly fired his gun. One of the guards, Delmar Pequino, fired back and hit Genevera on the back.
While Genevera managed to flee, he was later found dead at Capricorn Street, JR Torres Subdivision in the same village around 5:35 a.m.
Police Station 8 head Police Major Charles Gever said Genevera was positively identified by the teen victim, but the stolen item and his firearm were not recovered from him.
Meanwhile, Pequino is detained at the police station while waiting for the decision of the fatality’s family if charges will be filed against him.
