95% of Western Visayas covered by health insurance
Ninety-five percent of the Western Visayas population are now covered by the government’s universal health program, the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said.
PhilHealth-6 Public Affairs Unit head Janimhe Jalbuna said in a Panay News report that 7,426,010 of region’s 7,796,744 projected population have been enrolled into the national health insurance program.
Of the covered residents, 3,946,074 were members while 3,479,936 were their dependents, according to Jalbuna.
PhilHealth-6 data showed that Aklan province had the highest enrollment rate, followed by Capiz, Guimaras, Antique, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
Among sectors, the indigents composed majority of the covered members. The formal sector, informal sector, senior citizens, lifetime members, and sponsored members followed suit.
