45T Negrense farmers, fisherfolk get P83M crop subsidy
Nearly 45,000 farmers and fisherfolk in Negros Occidental benefited from P83 million worth of crop insurance premium subsidy last year
According to the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC), a total of P72.9 million went to beneficiaries enrolled under the government’s Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA).
The amount covered P56.5 million for the crop sector, with 28,937 recipients of rice, corn, high-value crops, and fishery insurance lines for 27,846.19 hectares.
A total of 6,051 recipients availed of P15.8 million in subsidy for the livestock sector, covering 17,338 hectares of combined areas.
Four hundred thirty-eight fishermen received P690,000 under the non-crop insurance, particularly fishing boats.
Farmers and fisherfolk enrolled under Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP) were also granted P9.8 million in premium subsidy.
PCIC-Negros Occidental Provincial Extension Office head Jose Ma. Torres said the amount of utilized premium subsidy only covered those who availed of it through the NFUCIP and RSBSA.
The NFUCIP is being implemented by the PCIC, in partnership with the provincial government of Negros while RSBSA is under the Department of Budget and Management.
