41 Cebu LGUs conferred with child-friendly seal

Forty one local government units (LGUs) in Cebu province have been conferred with the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG).

The LGUs awarded were: Minglanilla, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Boljoon, Alcoy, Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Moalboal, Ronda, Alcantara, Dumanjug, Barili, Pinamungajan, Balamban, Asturias, Tuburan and Tabuelan, San Remigio, Madridejos, Bantayan, Sta. Fe, Medellin, Daanbantayan and Tabogon.

The towns of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, Liloan, San Francisco, Tudela, Pilar, Consolacion and Cordova also passed the indicators.

The Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted the assessment in the LGUs.

DILG 7 Assistant Regional Director Elias Fernandez said during the awarding ceremony that these LGUs delivered a clear understanding on child-friendly framework that promotes child-friendly local governance.

“This is a recognition system for local government units delivering clear and outstanding positive results for children,” said Fernandez.

Fernandez explained in rating the LGUs, several indicators were considered such as the decreasing incidence of death of children below 5-years old and decreasing number of underweight children 6 years old and below.

Also, the increasing number of 3 to 4-year-old children attending day-care centers and increasing number of elementary graduates, were likewise considered.

Another indicator, Fernandez said, is the absence of child laborers.
