Takot sa tokhang? Mabilog’s wife, kids flee PH over ‘security concerns’
The family of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog are afraid for their safety after President Rodrigo Duterte tagged him as a narcopolitiko.
Quoting a source, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on September 6 that the mayor’s wife, Marivic, and their children have left the country over security concerns.
“There have been reports of tangible threats against the mayor so they decided to leave as well as a precautionary measure,” the source said.
Citing information from the Bureau of Immigration, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella on September 7 said Mabilog’s wife, a Canadian citizen, boarded a plane bound for Narita on August 31.
Her flight was different from Mabilog’s, though they were bound for the same city on Japan.
Duterte has accused Mabilog of involvement in the illegal drug trade, which the mayor repeatedly denied.
