Strike 3: Tommy Osmeña scolds SM anew for elevator mishap
Looks like bilyonaryo Henry Sy is in deep trouble in Cebu.
The SM Group again found itself in a scuffle with the Cebu City government — this time, over a malfunctioning mall elevator that trapped people inside for over 20 minutes.
Mall authorities said the incident “has been resolved” and that no one was hurt after an elevator fell in the chute. However, Mayor Tomas “Tommy” Osmeña said this was different from the complaints that he’s been getting.
“How can SM consider the issue ‘resolved’ when there are people still complaining to me on how they were treated? Multiple witnesses have stated that they were threatened by security into deleting the videos that they took of the aftermath. Some refused and the City Legal Office now has copies,” the politiko said, drawing the third battleground with the bilyonaryo conglomerate.
“SM’s arrogance in intimidating their customers and calling the issue ‘resolved’ is consistent with their arrogance in not paying taxes,” Osmeña added.
Prior to this case, Osmeña has been chasing BDO Unibank and SM City Cebu for alleged tax evasion.
