Prospero Nograles on Matobato ‘killings’: Buhay pa mga tao ko
Contrary to Edgar Matobato’s horror stories at the Senate Thursday (September 15), former House Speaker Prospero said that none of his people were killed when he ran for the mayoralty seat in Davao City six years ago.
“As far as I know, there’s not a single incident that any of my staff or security personnel who were assigned to me while I was still politics was killed even when I ran for mayor in 2010,” Nograles said in a statement.
“Buhay pa naman sila hanggang ngayon,” added Nograles, a multiple-time challenger to Duterte supremacy in Davao.
Matobato, who claimed to be an ex-Davao Death Squad (DDS) member, alleged that then-Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered the abduction and killing of four of Nograles’s supporters.
One of the four who were kidnapped was an ex-female Barangay Captain. Matobato said he personally took part in the slaying and disposal of the bodies.
At that time, Nograles was running for mayor against Sara Duterte, the incumbent President’s daughter.
The former speaker’s son, Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles, corroborated his father’s statement.
“From the time I was chief-of-staff of former Speaker Prospero C. Nograles to the time I was elected as congressman, no supporter of ours or persons under our employ was ever killed due to politics,” he said in a separate statement.
Once bitter political rivals, the Dutertes and Nograleses have since reached a truce.
