Patigasan: Taliño tells why he refuses to release Bohol mayor murder mastermind Boniel
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño believes that they have all the reasons in the world to continue holding Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel.
Niño Rey is being accused of masterminding the brutal murder of his own wife, Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Boniel. Gisela was reportedly shot and dumped at sea.
The Board Member, who is in custody of cops, has filed a habeas corpus petition, which Cebu City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 17 subsequently granted.
However, Taliño–who earlier claimed to have elicited an “extrajudicial confession” from Niño Rey–ain’t budging.
“Even if he will be released on his kidnapping charges, he still has to face the parricide case and he is under custodial investigation together with his cohorts,” the police official was quoted as saying in a SunStar Online report Monday, June 12.
The parricide case was filed that same day. “They also executed a waiver of detention,” added Taliño.
Taliño appears bent on keeping Niño Rey as he vowed to contest the court order with the help of PNP legal officers and civilian lawyers.
He argued that they filed the case against the suspect within the 36-hour reglamentary period. #
