Party pooper? Tommy Osmeña shuts down Rico’s Lechon in Cebu
Iconic as it may be, the politiko could not ignore that the famous lechon place went against the rules.
Mayor Tomas “Tommy” Osmeña shut down two branches of Rico’s Lechon in Cebu City after discovering that the popular restaurant chain did not have valid business permits. Notices of closure were strapped at the building façade, which explained why the branches were ordered closed by the city hall.
“One restaurant has not renewed its business permit for 5 years. The other never had a business permit at all. Both are million peso businesses, not carenderias. Per due process, the City Treasurer gave 2 warnings over a span of months, and City Legal issued a show cause order. Still no compliance,” Osmeña said in a Facebook post.
He even shared that one branch was owned by a close friend, but that didn’t matter in terms of his decision to issue the closure order.
On the other hand, Rico’s owners explained that they were actually processing the permits to operate when the closure notice came, adding that they are working to reopen and serve the city’s iconic lechon dishes soon.
