Package scares Negros Occ vice gov’s office; Akala bomba!
A package sent to the office of Negros Occidental vice governor Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Capitol in Bacolod City triggered a bomb scare on Wednesday.
Lacson said the package was sent to his office by one Joe G. Baltazar, 83, from Long Beach in California.
He said he received a text message some days back from a cargo forwarding company informing him of the package from the US.
When he disregarded the message, the forwarding company sent the package to his office at the capitol (https://thedailyguardian.net/negros/package-causes-alarm-at-capitol/).
Lacson said he contacted the Bacolod City police to investigate the package after efforts to contact the sender of the package proved futile.
A team from the city police’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit was sent to check the package.
The package turned out to contain used clothes, toiletries, mugs, and food items.
Lacson said he does not recall meeting Baltazar in the past, but said the sender might have been attempting to donate the items to distressed individuals in Negros Occidental.
He said the items would be donated to the Bacolod Boys’ Home at Barangay Granada.
