P27.9B Cebu-Mactan bridge project to roll out this month
The contract for the P27.9 billion Cebu Cordova Bridge Infrastructure Project that will connect Mactan and Cebu islands is expected to be awarded this month, a Palace official said.
“Ang target this month i-award to the most qualified bidder,” said Presidential Legislative Liaison Officer Adelino Sitoy, referring to a Spanish and a Korean-based contractor.
However, Sitoy did not disclose the names of the companies.
The latest infrastructure project is third Cebu-Mactan link which is targereted to be opened for motorists in three to four years.
Sitoy visited Capitol late last week to grace a public forum on Federalism, where he also presented to Governor Hilario P. Davide III the updates on the project.
Sitoy disclosed that they will make adjustments to the design of the bridge to destruction on mangroves and fish habitats. He said that thr design will follow an “S” shape stretched along the bridge’s 8.25 kilometer span.
At present there are two bridges connecting Cebu mainland to Mactan Island; the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge; and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
The third bridge will connect Cebu City to Mactan Island through the town of Cordova.
“Third bridge will start from South Road Properties viaduct to the vicinity of Shell Island. From Shell will be a causeway to Barangay Bangbang in Cordova, then to Barangay Pilipog,” said Sitoy.
“We will have a government counterpart, which I already submitted to Sec. (Mark) Villar ang first priority, access way from Pilipog bridge to Gabi bridge,” added Sitoy.
