Negros OCD to conduct Kanlaon drills: Baka sumabog din kasi
Following the eruption of Mayon Volcano in Albay, the Office of Civil Defense in Negros Occidental is gearing up for simulation drills in areas around an active volcano in the area – Kanlaon.
The provincial government and local OCD are working on the drills, according to Zephard Caellan, head of the provincial disaster management department.
Caellan said OCD regional director Jose Roberto Nunez will set the schedule of the drills.
“We should not our guard down and be alert always,” Caellan said.
Earlier, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had placed Kanlaon on Alert Level 2.
With this, a four-kilometer danger zone is still off limits to the public, due to the possibility of creatic explosions caused by the volcano’s “moderate unrest.”
Areas directly affected by the four-kilometer danger zone around Kanlaon are San Carlos, Bago, and La Carlota Cities; and Murcia, La Castellana, Moises Padilla and Salvador Benedicto towns.
Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental provinces, is a centerpiece of Mount Kanlaon Natural Park.
