Neg Occ town disputes election hotspot tag
E.B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental is contesting the Philippine National Police’s decision to tag it as among the potential hotspots for the 2019 elections.
Mayor Marvin Malacon said he was surprised when the PNP included EB Magalona as one of the election hotspots in the province, and asked the PNP what its basis is.
The PNP earlier included E.B. Magalona in its list of eletion hotspots in the province (https://thedailyguardian.net/negros/eb-magalona-mayor-assures-peaceful-polls/).
It said it considers an area an election hotspot if there is “intense” political rivalry.
Malacon will run for reelection and will be challenged by Provincial Board Member and former EB Magalona mayor David Lacson, who endorsed Malacon over his cousin, former provincial board member Patrick Lacson.
David had agreed to run as Malacon’s vice mayor as part of a supposed unity ticket of the Love Negros Team and the United Negros Alliance, but negotiations failed.
