Me jaguar na! Iloilo town mayor gets police bodyguards after series of raids in the area
Sara (Iloilo) mayor Ermelita Salcedo is getting police bodyguards, after she and two of her relatives met with the head of the Western Visayas regional police Monday.
The unscheduled meeting came three weeks after the simultaneous raids where two members of the Salcedo family were killed.
During the meeting, the three asked for assistance for their safety and security, with Mayor Salcedo requesting for police escorts as she said she has no police security detail and relied on civilians for security.
With the mayor at the meeting at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City were her daughter, Board Member Jeneda Salcedo-Orendain; and daughter-in-law Sybelle Mary Buenaflor Salcedo.
For his part, Bulalacao said the purpose of their visit was to give him a chance to get to know them.
He also said he accommodated the mayor’s request for police security but on two conditions.
“One, they should do their best to promote peace in Sara during the conduct of the elections. Second, all loose firearms at the possession of their family members and allies must be turned over to the police,” he said.
Bulalacao said Jeneda and Sybelle were in tears during the meeting as they recounted how they lived in uncertainty and fear.
During the hearing, the Salcedos claimed that they have been subjected to cyberspace bullying.
They also accused Sara police chief Senior Inspector Asencion Ortizo of utter threatening words whenever he’s drunk. Bulalacao said he would have that investigated.
