Magaling pa sa CA: Gwen Garcia slams ‘whimsical’ Ombudsman dismissal

There’s nothing but a political reason for the surprise dismissal order.

Cebu Congresswoman and Deputy Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia is appalled by the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman dismissing her from office over an administrative complaint dating back 2012.

The Ombudsman on Monday, Feb. 12 announced that Garcia is dismissed for grave misconduct over the anomalous purchase of the Balili property in Cebu. Garcia apparently did not have the authority from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to acquire the land back when she was governor.

A portion of the Balili property was later on discovered to be underwater as part of a mangrove.

Garcia questioned the timing of the revival of the case, and said that the Ombudsman is overstepping its mandate to brand itself higher than the Court of Appeals, which has already dismissed the criminal case.

“What the Ombudsman could not win in the court of law, she is now trying to win in the court of public opinion,” Garcia said.

“With the pending impeachment complaint against the Ombudsman in which Deputy Speaker Garcia would be actively involved in its dispatch, being ex officio member of the Justice Committee and a vigorous participant, Ombudsman Morales now seems to have the leverage to influence and secure the dismissal of the impeachment complaint against her,” the politiko added.

These empowered ladies are definitely having a showdown!
