Jalaur dam project in Iloilo town begins
Construction work has commenced on the P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project (JRMP) Phase II in Calinog, Iloilo.
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), the project implementer, received last week a “notice to proceed,” said NIA chief Ricardo Visaya in a Panay News article.
The Korea Export-Import Bank, which would finance the multipurpose irrigation project, has concurred on the contract agreement between the NIA and contractor Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.
“That was already the signal for Daewoo to start the construction,” Visaya said, adding that the contractor has already mobilized its personnel and equipment.
While the construction has commenced, the NIA official said the Jalaur project is expected to see groundbreaking in January 2019.
JRMP Phase II includes the construction of a 109-meter Jalaur high dam; 38.5-meter afterbay dam; 10-meter Alibunan catch dam; 80.74-kilometer high line canal; generation of new areas for irrigation; and rehabilitation of existing irrigation system.
